About US

   Our History

In 1989, a group of concerned and motivated individuals in Leesburg founded a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity of Lake County's first home was built on East Main Street in Leesburg in March 1990. At the same time, another group was founding Habitat for Humanity of Sumter County.  In 2007, we decided to join forces and become Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter.  To date  our affiliate has completed over 190 homes in Lake and Sumter Counties and plan to celebrate our 200th home in early 2012. Additionally, our affiliate has supported over 130 families in affordable housing worldwide through our tithing program. Partnering with interested volunteers, churches, business people and organizations, we are committed to serving our community by supporting families in home ownership.
